# Account & profile

> Signing in, the one-time trading approval, your identity, your wallet, and what other people can see.

## Sign in

updown uses [Privy](https://privy.io) for authentication. Click **Login** and sign in with your **email address** or a **Google account**. These are the only two methods. The Privy popup opens in place, so you stay on the page you were on.

Your account is created automatically on first sign-in, with:

* a generated **username** made of a color, an adjective, and a shape, such as "BlueAngrySquare"
* a generated **icon**: a shape on a colored disc
* an embedded **wallet** on Robinhood Chain that holds your cash

  Sign up with your regular, permanent email address. Temporary addresses and dot-alias variants of an address are refused.

## Allow trading

Before your first deposit, you complete a one-time approval. It appears inside the deposit dialog until it is granted:

> **Enable trading** — One approval. After that, trades go through with no signing.
> Your keys stay yours · Only the trades you place · Revoke anytime

Click **Allow trading**. The panel reads "Enabling trading — A few seconds. You can close this, it keeps going." When it finishes, it reads "Trading enabled — Deposit to trade." Click **Continue**.

The approval lets updown move funds for the trades you place, settle your windows and options, and route deposits into your balance, without a signature for every action. Your keys stay in your Privy embedded wallet.

## Your profile

Your **Portfolio** page is also your profile. Open it from **Portfolio** in the top bar or from your avatar menu → **Profile**. Click **Edit profile** to change:

| **Username**   | 3–24 letters, numbers, or underscores. Must be unique. The dialog shows "Checking…", "That username is taken.", or "Available".                                                                                                        |
| **Email**      | Read-only. It is your login identity.                                                                                                                                                                                                  |
| **X account**  | Optional. Paste a handle or profile URL, and an X icon next to your name links to it.                                                                                                                                                  |
| **Icon**       | **Shuffle**, choose one of 26 colors or **Custom**, set the **Background** disc color, pick one of 16 shapes, and drag the knob to rotate it.                                                                                          |
| **Visibility** | What other people see on your profile: **Wallet** (balance, portfolio value, and chart), **Positions** (open positions), and **Activity** (trade history). Each is **Public** or **Hidden**. Hidden sections are still visible to you. |

Click **Save**. The toast "Profile updated" confirms it.

Your public profile lives at `/u/your-username`. Your email and wallet addresses are never shown to others. See [Profiles & social](/platform/profiles-and-social).

## Your wallet

Your cash is **USDG** in your own wallet on **Robinhood Chain**. You can see it in three places:

* **Cash** in the top bar. Click it to deposit.
* **Available cash** on the Portfolio value card, with "\$X in positions" beneath it.
* **Wallet** in the options order panel.

The wallet icon on your Portfolio page (tooltip "Wallet addresses") opens a dialog listing your wallet addresses. See [Deposit & withdraw](/portfolio/deposit-withdraw) for the funding flow and [Portfolio](/portfolio/overview) for how each figure is calculated.

## User menu and theme

Your avatar in the top right opens a menu with **Profile**, **Light mode** / **Dark mode**, and **Log out**. Dark is the default theme. You can also sign out with the sign-out icon on your Portfolio page.
